VIA lanseaza chipset-urile PM800 si PM880 cu grafica integrata
VIA a lansat la sfarsitul saptamanii doua noi chipset-uri cu grafica integrata pentru procesoarele Pentium 4. Acestea sunt PM800 si PM880. Ambele chipset-uri folosesc nucleul grafic S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro, care include motorul Chromotion CE. Acesta permite decodarea hardware MPEG-2 pentru o redare fara pauze a filmelor pe DVD. De asemenea, motorul Chromation CE este optimizat pentru redarea filmelor in regim "interlaced", prin folosirea functiilor "Adaptive De-interlacing" si "Video De-blocking".
Pe langa nucleul video integrat, atat VIA PM800 cat si VIA PM880 includ si un port AGP, pentru cazurile in care este nevoie de folosirea unei placi video mai performanta. Diferenta majora dintre PM800 si PM880 se regaseste la nivelul controller-ului de memorie folosit. Astfel, VIA PM800 include un controller de memorie cu un singur canal (FastStream64), in timp ce VIA PM880 include un controller de memorie dual channel (DualStream64). Restul specificatiilor sunt cele tipice unui chipset de ultima generatie pentru procesoarele Pentium 4: suport pentru magistrala de 800MHz, pentru procesoarele Prescott si pentru memoriile DDR400. Cele doua chipset-uri au inceput deja sa fie livrate de catre VIA, iar primele placi de baza bazate pe acestea vor aparea in al doilea trimestru al acestui an.
